Patricia Amble, better known as Tish, has arrived in Michigan for her next renovation project. This particular project could prove to be especially trying for her because it’s the same cabin where she spent her childhood summers. Upon arrival, it becomes evident someone doesn’t welcome Tish’s return. The person in question has left a photo of Tish’s deceased mother on the bed with the words, “Don’t ask why.”

Not a deterrent, Tish eases into the lives of  her “long-lost” family members on her dad’s side, most of whom are very reluctant to talk about the 26 year old mystery surrounding her mother’s death. Was it really suicide? Tish keeps asking questions that no one seems willing to answer.  At a certain point it seems she’s been asking too many questions, and somebody is not happy.  To top it all off, she manages to catch the attention of some pretty dangerous drug dealers.

Her once simple goal to renovate a cabin turns into a rollercoaster ride on finding  the truth and keeping her life.

Kill Me If you Can is the second book in the Patricia Amble Mystery series. While this book stands alone as a separate journey for Tish, I do feel like I need to read the first book, Love Me If You Must, especially the way this novel ended. I will get to more about the ending in bit.

I like Patricia/Tish as a person. With all the events surrounding her dad and her mother, she understandably has some difficulties with God. The character has a good heart and a willingness, if not always apparent, to fight for others. While she is a loner type, it was commendable to see her reach out to help other women in need.

The author Nicole Young does a great job with character development and pacing. She created a complicated woman with a messy family riddled with rivalries and secrets. This is a scenario most reader can relate to easily. I have to admit as the novel came to a close, there were some real surprises I had a difficult time processing. When I was reading, I completely missed some hidden agendas and couldn’t quite believe “the culprit” was responsible for this heinous crimes. But then again, that’s life, it usually is the one you don’t expect.

Now the ending. Yes, I need to sigh on this one.

I knew this was a series before I started reading it, but the ending made me want to scream. I know it’s just fiction, but I like closure. I think I must have re-read the last few pages over and over again, because it was left so open.

Don’t end suspense with more suspense. * I’m Cringing*

I will admit, it was a genius move by the author to encourage curiosity for the next book in this series. With that said, I will be on the lookout for Kiss Me, If You Dare, because like I said, I like closure.

Plus, I did really did enjoy Tish’s story. LOL!
