Single Sashimi

Venus Chau is a video game developer and she’s ready to start her own company. Her problem is keeping her secret game out of greedy hands until she finds an investor. When an offer from Drake Yau comes up, she considers it even though she has had a bad experience with him. When her Grandmother bribes her to take Drake’s offer, she has more incentive to look beyond her past issues. Plus it’s just temporary.

With that in mind, Venus accepts the Technology Officer (CTO) position for Drake’s sister’s start-up company, and continues to plan for her personal company’s launch. Being in male-dominated field, she struggles to obtain investors and also keep her game plans secure. Along the way, what she doesn’t expect is having to fight her feelings for Drake.

Single Sashimi is the third book in the Sushi Series. I spoke with Camy Tang a few weeks on ChristianBookwormPodcast.com. I mentioned to her this book was my favorite in the series mainly because  I’m a geek, nerd or whatever you want to call it. I love technology, computers and small gadgets. So, I really related to the main character, Venus Chau. There were some very cool “girl-power” moments that had me laughing and cheering from the sidelines. 

Now, Venus can be a bit abrasive at times. Her height and love for stilettos gives the impression she’s fearless. She certainly had no problem handling her own in a "man’s world."  At the same time, Camy reveals how this beautiful woman still struggles with past weight issues and being rejected by her mother. So, behind the ambition and aggression are doubts that many woman share which makes this story relatable to anyone, not just a nerd like myself.

This book as well as the entire series is marketed as chick lit, but I consider it more on the higher level thinking side. As Venus, in some cases is forced out her comfort zone, it’s refreshing to see her growth as she embraces her identity not in her successes but in Christ. That’s a valuable lesson we all can learn.

If you have not ready any of the Sushi series, I definitely want to highly recommend Single Sashimie.  All three books stand alone, despite being apart of the series. Each book focuses on one of a set of cousins.
