Good To MeGood To Me is LaTonya Mason’s debut novel. Charity Phillips, a respected therapist has opened her own Christian counseling clinic. She is also the only female associate minister at her church. The senior pastor has no problems with pushing her out front despite the resistance from traditional males on the pastoral staff. With her own business and reaching new levels as a minister, Charity’s is living a blessed life.

Despite her many blessings, Charity still longs and hopes for reconciliation with her ex-husband. Emmitt on the other hand is feeling a sense of emptiness and is not satisfied with the visitation rights he has for his son. With a manipulative mother behind him, Emmitt sets out to break Charity’s heart even more by fighting her for custody of their son. This surprise move from Emmitt is just the beginning of the chaotic whirlwind that is about to shake Charity’s faith.

In a matter of one day, Charity learns her counseling clinic is suddenly in jeopardy of closing. She also learns almost too late that she is being stalked by one of her mentally ill clients. Charity, a therapist and minister, soon finds herself swimming alone in a deep depression. Her state of despair will be lesson in spiritual warfare and the power of God to reach us when we are at our lowest points.

In the midst of all of this, Charity has been receiving letters from a prisoner. Joseph is an ex-cop who has been imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. After reading Charity’s article in a magazine, he has become smittened with her and feels strongly God has chosen Charity to be his wife. With a friendship developing with a man behind bars and Emmitt suddenly making dramatic changes in his attitude, Charity must depend on God’s guidance for her future.

There is a wonderfully sweet romance within the pages of this book on two levels. Readers will no doubt connect with Charity as she struggles through her depression. Having a strong support system around her was vital to her making it through, but even more importantly the author shows how God’s love can reach us even when we fail to seek or can’t reach Him. While Charity was going through her “Job” moments, God was working out a plan far more beautiful than she could imagine.
