Forgivin’ Ain’t Forgettin’
by Mata Elliott
I think I have often gushed over how much I enjoy Walkworthy (under Hachette Book Group) books on this blog. The publisher definitely publishes books well “worthy” of one’s reading time! I especially enjoy reading debut novelist and Mata Elliott strikes it hot with her first novel, Forgivin’ Ain’t Forgettin’.
Cassidy Beckett arrives home from a conference to find her aunt has been up to her usual generous self – maybe too generous for Cassidy’s comfort. Recently widowed Theron Monroe and his two young daughters have been offered a place to stay in the home Cassidy shares with her aunt. Not to thrilled with this temporary arrangement, Cassidy is determined to be cordial to the hotly pursued baker, but not too friendly. Travis’ charm soon breaks through Cassidy’s wall, but neither of them are really ready to let go of the past.
Travis is still reeling from his wife’s death and is not sure he will ever fall in love again. With women chasing him down left and right, his heart surprises him as he is drawn to one woman in particular. Is it possible for him to fall in love with another woman besides his beloved wife?
On the other hand, Cassidy has deep secrets that have affected her ability to love a man freely. The one man she fell in love turned her world upside down. As she grows closer to Travis, her past won’t lay dormant anymore.
Forgivin’ Ain’t Forgettin’ is a sweet novel that beautifully touches upon difficult issues like forgiveness and loss. Intertwined between the grief and deep secrets is a story that speaks of how God reaches down to love us in spite of our pasts. Readers will no doubt close the book with a sense of hope. I especially enjoyed the bond shared between Travis and his two daughters. It’s always a nice touch to see a strong Christian father being there for his children. This is one of those novels where reading the ending is bittersweet because the characters have captured a special place in the reader’s heart.
