Now that I’m working on the final draft of my novel, in a few months I plan to work on the proposal. I’ve had a few conversations with authors and aspiring writers. Some conversations have been discouraging and making me doubt my particular story, but I know Christian fiction needs to open up more to reach a multicultural audience. Last night I read an interesting article in Publishers Weekly.

Evangelical Christian publishing houses have long been criticized for inattention to African American readers, but that is changing. This year for the first time Baker Publishing Group had two booths at BEA, one in the Religion Pavilion, and a smaller one in the African American Pavilion, also located downstairs. “It’s been received incredibly,” said Nathan Henrion, Baker national accounts manager, who said the African American booth was so busy on the first day that he didn’t get lunch until 7 p.m.
